Meet Akiko Kato

Founded in 2014 by Akiko Kato, who studied Product Design at Parsons School of Design in New York,  beroep|tech is a design label specializing in minimalism and contemporaneity. beroep|tech’s products are majorly fashion jewelry that is locally handcrafted in New York City by Akiko. beroep|tech’s everyday jewelry is designed for everyone and inspired  by the everyday.

To generate delicate products like jewelry, her taste of  minimalism in industrial and modern aspects and inspiration of everyday objects abstractly harmonize with each other. Akiko’s fascination is the beauty of  everyday little objects left unnoticed. beroep|tech’s designs are derived from the inspirational ideas of  everyday life observation. She proposes through her designs the value in everyday life and transforming  monotonous items into tiny, wearable sculptures. Also, contemporary architectures, forms of geometry, as well as visual art are hugely involved in Akiko’s stream of inspirations. Craftsmanship is not a priority to fully  express her concept.

The perspective of industrialization and minimalism  gives the jewelry the sophistication of its natural and  raw appearance.

Because beroep|tech is for everyone, it is proud to be gender-neutral.

Additionally, the everyday in terms of beroep|tech is the timelessness. Akiko’s designs are not necessarily following the trend. Consciously speaking, all material is sourced in New York. Furthermore, it is made of 100% sterling silver, gold/rose gold fill in order to prevent unwanted skin irritation. Gold-filled and rose gold-filled pieces are used for special designs that require a proper softness to ensure original shapes.

beroep|tech‘s jewelry is proudly carried at Design Milk/ Adorn Milk, designboom, WantedDesign, Canal Street  Market, and designer boutiques.

Also, she was grateful for having her jewelry sold at museums, such as the New Museum, Studio Museum 127, etc.
